# Which Instacart stores have the highest tips?

**Stores with large average baskets tend to produce the biggest Instacart tips, because many customers tip a percentage of the basket.** Shoppers commonly rank warehouse clubs (Costco, Sam's Club, BJ's), premium and organic grocers (for example Wegmans, Gelson's, Bristol Farms, Erewhon in California), healthy-living markets (Sprouts and similar) and premium liquor stores above discount grocers. Big tips are never guaranteed, but store choice, area and timing raise the odds.

## The basket math

Same 30 items, same checkout line, same 15% tip:

- Discount grocer, $55 basket → **$8.25** tip
- Premium or warehouse store, $420 basket → **$63.00** tip

That is about 7.6 times more for similar work. This is why store choice matters as much as speed.

## A store hierarchy shoppers use

| Tier | Examples | Typical basket | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| **1. Warehouse clubs** | Costco, Sam's Club, BJ's | Large | Heavy cases; bring a folding wagon |
| **2. Premium & organic** | Wegmans, Gelson's, Bristol Farms, Erewhon | Large | High expectations on produce quality |
| **3. Healthy-living markets** | Sprouts and similar | Medium–large | Fast layout, many repeat suburban customers |
| **4. Premium liquor** | Total Wine, BevMo! | Medium–large | 21+ and ID scan at handoff |
| **5. Discount grocers** | Aldi, Save-A-Lot, Grocery Outlet | Small | Low tips; check pay per mile carefully |

Basket sizes vary by market. Treat this as a ranking, not a promise.

## Area matters as much as the store

- Look for clusters where a warehouse club, a premium grocer and a liquor store sit within a few miles.
- Single-family-home suburbs mean quick drop-offs compared with large apartment complexes.
- Being physically near the store when offers drop is one of the biggest reported factors in seeing them first, alongside Cart Star priority access.

## Protect a big tip once you have it

An odd tip (for example $58.42) is likely a percentage. Do not rush refunds: ask about the back room and offer photo replacements, because each refunded dollar lowers the tip (see [replace vs. refund](https://gigearningsguide.com/guides/instacart-out-of-stock-replacements.html)).

## Frequently asked questions

**Which stores tip the most on Instacart?**

Stores with large baskets tend to produce the biggest percentage tips: warehouse clubs, premium and organic grocers, healthy-living markets and premium liquor stores. Results vary by area.

**Why are Aldi Instacart tips low?**

Discount grocers have small baskets, so the same tip percentage produces fewer dollars. Check pay per mile carefully on those batches.

**Are Costco tips better on Instacart?**

Often, because baskets are large. The trade-off is heavy items and long shops.

**How do I get more high-tip batches on Instacart?**

Work high-basket stores in affluent areas at busy times, stay close to the store when offers drop, keep your rating at 4.7 or above and work toward higher Cart Star tiers.
