# Is Amazon Flex worth it in 2026?

**Amazon Flex is often the best-paying delivery gig per hour in 2026, if you can get blocks: independent Solo data shows a median of $24.31 gross per hour across 22 US cities, the highest of any delivery app, and Amazon says most delivery partners earn $18 to $25 an hour.** Pay is set before you accept a block and almost none of it depends on tips (about 2%). The catches are that blocks are not guaranteed and can be hard to get, and long package routes put real miles on your car, so net pay per hour after car costs can drop to roughly $5 to $13.

## What Flex drivers gross in 2026

| Measure (Amazon Flex, Solo data) | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| **Median gross per hour** | $24.31 | The highest of the delivery apps in the dataset. |
| **Middle half of cities** | $23.64 – $25.95 | Block pay is similar from city to city. |
| **Share of gross from tips** | about 2% | Almost all pay is block pay you see in advance. |
| **Lowest and highest city rows** | $21.34 – $31.18 | Omaha (NE) at the bottom, Seattle (WA) at the top. |
| **Amazon's own figure** | $18 – $25 / hour | Amazon also guarantees at least $15 to $19 per scheduled hour, depending on location. |

Only 22 city rows exist for Flex, fewer than for DoorDash or Uber Eats, so treat the median as a guide rather than a promise. See [how Amazon Flex pay works](https://gigearningsguide.com/guides/amazon-flex-pay.html) for blocks, surges and tips.

## Why Flex pays more and still disappoints some drivers

- **Pay is fixed per block.** You earn the offer whether you finish early or late, so efficient drivers do well.
- **Getting blocks is the hard part.** Offers go fast and depend on your standing; bots and location spoofers get accounts removed ([how to get more blocks](https://gigearningsguide.com/guides/amazon-flex-blocks.html)).
- **Routes can be long.** A suburban or rural package route can mean 80 to 120 miles in a few hours, and the drive to and from the station is unpaid.
- **Standing matters.** Late deliveries and missed blocks lower it ([Flex standing](https://gigearningsguide.com/guides/amazon-flex-standing.html)).

## Worked example: one 4-hour block, two kinds of route

Both blocks pay the Solo median of $24.31 per hour. Car cost uses the IRS rate for the second half of 2026 (76¢ per mile), including the drive to the station and back. Numbers are illustrative.

| Block | A: dense route, station nearby | B: spread-out route |
|---|---|---|
| **Block pay (4 hours)** | $97.24 | $97.24 |
| **Total miles** | 60 | 100 |
| **Car cost at 76¢/mile** | −$45.60 | −$76.00 |
| **Net before tax** | $51.64 | $21.24 |
| **Net per block hour** | $12.91 | $5.31 |

Flex is not a high-paying gig if the route eats your car. Track total miles per block for a few weeks before deciding, and deduct them ([Amazon Flex taxes](https://gigearningsguide.com/guides/amazon-flex-taxes.html)).

## Who Flex tends to suit

- **People who like a set schedule** and know their pay before they start.
- **Drivers near a delivery station** with dense routes.
- **Multi-appers** who use Flex for scheduled hours and DoorDash or Instacart to fill gaps.

## Who it often does not suit

- **Anyone who needs guaranteed hours.** Block availability changes week to week.
- **Drivers with a small car or high cost per mile** on long rural routes.
- **People who cannot carry packages up stairs** all block long.
