    How this map is built

Source. Every measured value comes from the public Solo Pay Insights city pages (Solo is a mileage and earnings tracker used by gig drivers). Each page reports the average total pay per hour (base + bonus + tips) for one app in one metro. We collected all 642 pages that were updated in 2026 (most recently October 21, 2026) and dropped pages showing $0 or older data.

"Hour" means engaged time. Solo counts time from accepting an offer to completing it. Time spent waiting for offers is not included, so pay per online hour is lower, often by a quarter to a third for delivery apps.

State value. The simple average of that app's metros inside the state. Metros that cross state lines are counted in the state Solo assigns them to.

Estimates. When an app has no metro data in a state, we multiply its US city average by the state's pay level (how the state's measured apps compare with their US averages). States with no metro data at all borrow the average pay level of their Census division. Estimates are striped on the map and in the pies; treat them as rough.

The pie. Each slice is one app's $/hr as a share of the sum of all apps' $/hr in that state, so the best-paying app gets the biggest slice. It compares pay rates, not market share or number of drivers.

Limits. Solo users are a self-selected sample, small metros can rest on few drivers, and the figures are gross: no gas, car wear, insurance or self-employment tax. Brand colors are used only to tell apps apart; this site is not affiliated with any of these companies.

    Questions

Which gig app pays the most per hour in the US?

Across 642 metro data points, the highest city average is Amazon Flex at $25.00 per engaged hour, followed by Uber ($23.35) and Lyft ($21.28). The lowest of the nine main apps is Uber Eats at $14.87. These are gross figures before gas and car costs.

Which states pay gig drivers the most?

Averaged across all nine apps, the top measured states are Washington ($23.33), Hawaii ($22.88), Minnesota ($22.35). The lowest measured are Florida ($16.79), Georgia ($17.24), Oklahoma ($17.34). Pay laws (Washington, Minnesota, New York City, California Prop 22) and higher local wages push the top states up.

Which app is the top earner in most states?

Counting only apps with real city data, the top-paying app per state is: Uber (18), Amazon Flex (10), Lyft (5), Instacart (3), Grubhub (2), Spark Driver (1). Rideshare (Uber, Lyft) and Amazon Flex block pay usually beat food delivery per hour.

Are these numbers what I take home?

No. They are gross pay per engaged hour (accept to drop-off) including tips and bonuses. Waiting time between orders, gas, depreciation and self-employment tax are not subtracted. Expect net pay well below these figures once vehicle costs are counted.
