How does Uber Eats pay delivery people in 2026?
Uber Eats pays couriers per delivery: before you accept, the offer card shows an upfront fare made up of the base fare and any tip the customer added at checkout, and Uber adds later tips and adjustments after the trip. Uber says fares are based on the anticipated time and effort for each delivery. Promotions such as Quests and Boost+ come on top, you keep 100% of tips, and in California, New York City and Seattle local law sets a minimum pay floor. Uber does not guarantee any hourly amount outside those rules.
What makes up an Uber Eats fare
| Part | When you see it | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Base fare | On the offer card | Uber says it reflects the expected time and effort for that delivery and local conditions. The formula is not published. |
| Upfront tip | Included in the offer total | What the customer added at checkout. It can change after delivery unless the offer is marked "Guaranteed". |
| Extra tips and adjustments | After the trip | Added to the trip in your earnings history. |
| Promotions | Earnings tab / offer card | Quests (bonus for a set number of trips) and Boost+ (extra pay per delivery in a set area). |
| Minimum-pay top-up | Pay statement | Only in markets with a pay floor, such as California, New York City and Seattle. |
Uber's offer card shows the total, the estimated time and distance, and the pickup and drop-off area before you accept.
Tips: the 100% rule and the tip guarantee
Uber says couriers keep 100% of customer tips. Since November 2025, Uber has been rolling out a tip guarantee on US delivery trips: an offer with a "Guaranteed" badge pays at least the total shown, and if the customer lowers the tip after delivery, Uber covers the difference. There are exceptions, such as cancelled or reassigned orders and percentage tips on orders whose basket changes. The details are in our Uber Eats tips guide.
Promotions: Quests, Boost+ and Uber Eats Pro
- Quest: a bonus for completing a set number of trips that meet the criteria shown in the app, within a set window. Read the fine print: some trip types may not count.
- Boost+: extra pay on each delivery that starts and ends in a highlighted area.
- Uber Eats Pro: Gold, Platinum and Diamond status give priority access to higher-paying deliveries in cities where the program is live. See Uber Eats Pro tiers.
Promotions vary by city and week. Treat a Quest as a bonus on top of trips that already make sense, not a reason to accept trips that lose money.
Minimum-pay laws in 2026
| Where | 2026 floor | Tips | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| California (Prop 22) | 120% of minimum wage for engaged time ($20.28/hr at the $16.90 state minimum) + $0.37 per engaged mile | On top | State law |
| New York City | $22.13/hr from the first pay period on or after April 1, 2026 | On top | NYC DCWP |
| Seattle (PayUp) | $0.47/min + $0.80/mile, or $5.34 per offer if greater | On top | Seattle Office of Labor Standards |
- Prop 22 counts engaged time and miles only, from accepting a delivery to completing it. Waiting online between orders does not count. If your fares for a pay period fall under the floor, Uber adds the difference. Prop 22 also limits app-based drivers to 12 hours of engaged time in 24 hours. The same formula is explained in how Prop 22 pay works.
- New York City sets a minimum pay rate for restaurant and grocery delivery apps, adjusted for inflation each year. NYC also requires delivery apps to offer a tip option at checkout with a suggested tip of at least 10% (in effect since January 26, 2026; the companies have appealed).
- Seattle pays the greater of the per-minute plus per-mile amount or the per-offer minimum, for each offer you accept.
Rates change every year. Check the official pages linked below before relying on a number.
How and when you get paid
- Weekly deposit: automatic, usually on Thursdays, if you choose nothing else.
- Instant Pay: cash out available earnings up to 6 times a day for a small fee. Uber says funds usually arrive within minutes but can take 2 to 3 business days.
- Flex Pay (a custom auto-withdrawal schedule) and the Uber Pro Card are also offered.
Watch: what Uber Eats pays per hour, by Gridwise's numbers
Gridwise, a mileage and earnings-tracking app for gig workers, breaks down 2026 Uber Eats pay from its users' data. In the video description Gridwise puts the gross average at $18.60 an hour, roughly 43% base pay and 50% tips with the rest from promotions, and points out that gas, maintenance and insurance still come out of that number. These are Gridwise's figures for its own users, not a pay promise.

From fare to real pay (illustrative)
An offer shows $9.40 for 4.0 miles and an estimated 22 minutes. That is $2.35 per mile and about $25.60 per hour of engaged time. If your car costs about $0.35 a mile in gas and wear (your number will differ), the trip leaves about $8.00, before taxes and before the minutes you spend waiting for the next offer. That gap is why experienced couriers judge offers on dollars per mile and per hour, not the headline total. See which Uber Eats orders to accept and how to work out your real hourly pay.
